003; pokevideo/text
[After switching on, the video flops about in a haphazard, obviously-Pokemon-directed way. As the cameramon struggles to point the Pokegear in the intended direction, the interior of a room at the Goldenrod inn becomes visible. A television is running in the background, but it's turned down and not clearly audible over the noise of the 'Gear being fumbled with.
Finally it settles on its intended target:

A pair of small, snoozing, fuzzy Pokemon! They're taking up the whole top end of the bed, and seem to have gotten turned around since falling asleep...
The camera lingers on them for a while, as the cameramon coos quietly to herself. Oh god they're so cute so adorable aaaah.
The video shuts off.
It turns back onto a scene from about half an hour later. The Shinx is galumphing around the edges of the bed, jumping and tripping over the rumpled-up covers. The Absol is lying on his back in the center of the Shinx's circular path, exchanging swats with the smaller Pokemon. After running a few rounds, the Shinx jumps on the Absol's face, and the two squawk and yowl as they bat playfully at one another, rolling back and forth and then off the bed completely.
The video shuts off again.]
[Later in the day, Ondorus makes a text post, unaware of earlier antics.]
These questions are for anyone who wishes to answer any portion of them.
- In and around Goldenrod, what sights and attractions would you recommend to someone who is unfamiliar with cities?
- Do you bother keeping track of your birthday in Johto? If you do, and if the year of your world is not of the length of a Johto year, how do you measure out when that and other dates from your world occur?
- Where raising young Pokemon is concerned, does anyone have any wisdom to share that isn't often found in the books on the subject?
- To misters Sion and Ryder: the eggs I purchased from you have hatched safely and healthily, in case the parents wish to be informed. Thank you, again.
((ooc: If you want to reply to the first, earlier entry, you'll just get Pokeshenanigans for a while. Ondorus might come back to those replies later in the evening after he's caught on, if there's anything in them that begs responding to.))

[He would keep track of his birthday, but he's not sure when he was created.]

[He spent FOREVER in Goldenrod. And now he's back again!]
For my birthday, I guess I sort of keep track of it. I consider myself sixteen now, and my birthday was in February, but I didn't celebrate or anything. It wasn't too big of a deal, back home.

The city is enormous, isn't it? More to be done and seen than one might ever imagine.
no subject
Definitely the biggest I've ever seen. Places like Ecruteak and Mahogany are smaller. I like them.
[He still wasn't quite used to buildings so tall...]

I'm accustomed to a 120-day year, separated into four seasons of thirty days each.
[Text]
...My, that's even shorter than this world's. I'm rather stunned at the quick rotation.]

As far as the second question goes, I happened to arrive on the exact date of my birthday, much to my displeasure. However, aside from the time discrepancies, this world's calendar is roughly the same as my own. Which is convenient, I suppose; I remember hearing about another person's issues with adjusting to this particular calendar. How does yours run, exactly?
[text]
A 120-day year, with the calendar divided up by the seasons, which are of equal enough length in Norad to formally assign thirty days to each.
[because farming.]
[text]
Only one month per season? That would be about one-fourth the length of this calendar, then. I suppose you could decide when to celebrate your birthday based on its relation to when a season begins or ends.

And then she grabs up the Gear again, hopping around the bed to find the two hatchlings while the video jerks dizzingly in her grip.
She finds them lying mostly still again, this time on the floor, the Shinx lying on the Absol's side and trying to wrap his paws around his leg while the Absol pulls his leg away again and again.]

2) actually I only really started keeping track of it after coming here. the year's as long in johto as back home though
3) dunno anything in particular you wanna know?

It's easy to learn how much to feed a young Pokemon, or what behaviors their species exhibits, or what physiological needs they have that must be met. But matters of habit and personality are best understood through experience, so I wanted to hear of any common problems that people have when raising Pokemon.
[text]
With regards to the young Pokémon, apparently allowing them to wail for any length of time isn't recommended. Some of them also require you to raise their happiness before they evolve. I've found that some of them tend to rather like music; I've gotten two evolutions that way, actually.
...as for my date of birth, the years here run the same as they do back in London, to my knowledge. I keep track of it, though I don't celebrate it. Not since I was a child.
[text]
Interesting. That's a popular answer, on both counts. It makes me wonder if this world is more closely related to some worlds than to other. Also whether a large "celebration" for one's birthday is considered customary here, though that question is easily answered.
[text]
This world seems rather unlike my own in most ways, outside of the way time passes; needless to say, we don't have sentient metal where I'm from, nor do we have sentient plant life.

If you're not used to cities some of the bigger attractions could be a little overwhelming I guess
there's lots of parks, maybe try those
And as for birthdays, eh i think people just do whatever they want. I got here not long after mine so it wasn't too jarring
and for the pokemon uh
don't spoil them
TRUST ME ON THIS
just don't

[and how much can he coddle them before it crosses that line]

well if they get used to getting their way all the time they will turn into monsters
