004; action for violet pokecenter/video
[So today Ondorus had been doing a bit of training out on Route 32, as is normal these days.
What wasn't normal was hearing a commotion a little ways away, and going to check it out and finding an Ekans biting the living daylights out of a poor wild Mareep.
Ondorus, being One Of Those People when it came to animals (especially of the wooly kind), saw only one solution. Olivia had no difficulty in driving off the bewildered Ekans, and the wounded, poisoned Mareep soon found itself inside a latching Pokeball.
....and then the Pokeball disappeared.
Ondorus quickly realized the reason for this, and hurried back to the Violet Pokemon Center.]
[At the Pokemon Center, Ondorus rushes into the building, looks around for the PC, goes to it, and...spends a while fumbling with it, looking worried. When he finally has a grasp on how it works, he notices something, pauses, looks extremely confused, then clumsily withdraws not one, but two Pokemon from the PC.
The first one he lets out is the injured, poisoned, weakly bleating Mareep, which he scoops up and delivers to the Nurse Joy immediately. He then hesitantly lets out the second Pokemon.

....this Sewaddle seems familiar.
Ondorus can be found in the Pokemon Center during that hullabaloo....or after it. Afterwards he is sitting in a chair with the Sewaddle on his lap, the Mareep at his feet, and his Xatu sitting in the chair next to him, all three munching on Pokemon-treats while he rubs idly at the bridge of his nose, looking tired, with his glasses in his other hand.]
[Later in the day, there is a post!]
I believe the girl named Yui has returned home. I found her Sewaddle in the PC today, but it appears he ended up there some time ago...
[He feels kind of awful about that.]
...the PC. It makes me feel rather uncomfortable, to think of leaving Pokemon there...wherever "there" is. But seven companions can't be taken outside of the city, it seems.
[Mmmrr. He folds his hands together, frowning. What is he going to do about this?]
Could someone explain to me what the PC is, and how it works? This world's technology... [He shakes his head in amazement as he ends the recording.]

Of course, because Descole is a pretentious little jerk like that and all true art is incomprehensible and weirdly-angled, the shot isn't really showing you too much of him. It's focused low, most of his body from the waist up visible in the rather stark lighting of the room (at least today he hasn't decided that true art is also poorly-lit); he's standing behind a metal table of some sort, his hands toying with small mechanical parts while he speaks. He's not giving you too much of his face, however; the mask he always wears isn't visible, you're getting maybe the lower half if you're lucky and his head is angled right.
It seems this message has caught him in the middle of Doing Science; he's still going to respond, however.]
My condolences regarding this..."Yui", Ondorus; I've lost a few acquaintances from this place myself, it's never pleasant.
And as for the PC, I suppose that depends on what you want to know about it. "What it is" is a bit vague; it's somewhere to keep the creatures you catch, nothing more. They don't particularly seem to mind, in my experience, nor does it harm them. Besides, given how centered this place is on these animals, I'd think there would be less willingness to use them in this place if it did harm them - to my knowledge, the natives designed the system, and they seem rather fixated on forming bonds with their Pokemon.
"These creatures", "these animals", :c. That...disconnected feeling to what Descole is saying aside, he raises a decent point.]
That's true. Aside from the actions of Team Rocket, I've seen nothing from humans but goodwill towards Pokemon both wild and tame.
[...not entirely true but. y'know. on a large scale. some people are just assholes, that's just a thing.]
I suppose it's just a matter of comfort. I don't trust this world's technology enough to put my own life in its hands, and I wouldn't trust it with the safety of my charges, either.
Well, if you put it that way... I spend most of my time back home around dangerous machinery, you see; as such, this isn't anything I really think about. It took some getting used to, to be sure, but it isn't anything I found too troubling. However, for those unacquainted with it...yes, I can see where it would be a concern, I suppose.
[He pauses for a moment; more...fiddling with those metal bits of whatever-the-hell.]
As for Team Rocket, I do hope you haven't run into too many of that lot.
[ahahaha. haha. ha. um.]
...nope, still worried. It helped a little, though.]
It's something I'll need to be able to handle soon enough. The only question is how...
[hmmmm]
Thankfully, I haven't personally encountered any activity, but I've heard enough about it as it happens elsewhere. [well poisoning what absolute douchery]
Not that you seem the sort, but I would recommend not being overly rash when it comes to seeking them out. They've injured [...a...friend? someone he sort of gives a damn about? that girl he was asking the network about when you guys first met?] an acquaintance of mine, from my world; they attacked her directly with their Pokemon, from what I understand, as well as attacking her physically themselves. I would be...incredibly displeased if something were to happen to you.
I understand. Thank you very much for your concern - and I mean that sincerely.
[seriously. feels good, man.]
Protecting people has always been part of my job, and I don't think I'd be able to give it up entirely for the sake of my own safety. But, then, part of that is acting in the interest of my team's well-being...
[His tone is warm, grateful, lightly amused. It does well to cover up his confused feelings on the subject.]
Your team can take care of themselves, far better than you seem to give them credit for; you refer to them as your "charges," I've noticed, as though you're some sort of caretaker for them - believe me, these creatures are often incredibly willing to leap to the defense of those that train them.
The affection and caretaking go both ways, basically.
[He's quiet for a moment after that. WHAT AM CONCERN.]
What exactly is this job of yours? If you don't mind.
they're babies-
....]
[murmuring:] It all seems very strange to me. [shakes head.]
It might be more accurate to call it a "duty" rather than a "job", really. I, along with the rest ["the other living member"] of my people, inhabit and maintain a settlement, the population of which fluctuates as travelers come and go...it serves as a reliable haven for the weary. As the elder's closest friend, my specific responsibilities are not set in stone, but I am called on constantly to assist in keeping the settlement running safely and smoothly.
they're often more competent than their squishy human trainers, trust him]
Forgive the amount of questions here, my friend, but I admit I'm interested - you've mentioned not being human in the past. In your world of origin, do your people have...I'm not certain how you would describe it. Abilities, I suppose, that are more advanced than those you possess as a human?
[i mean if you're accustomed to likewise spitting fire or something then yeah he can sort of understand the concern here, uh]
But monsters such as we have properties that differ from a human's, to be sure.
Rune magic, is it? And sorcerers as well...this is commonplace, in your society? Such things are considered to exist only in legends, where I'm from - and you openly call yourself monsters as well...that's something with a bit of a negative connotation, in worlds populated primarily by humans, but if it's as you've said before and other species are very prevalent, I can see where -
[...................................and that is about the point where he realizes that he should probably sit his happy ass down and stop yattering, oh my god Descole calm down
it was like three sentences
can we not jump Ondorus with the massive amounts of fascination for three sentences
this is why you have no friends]
Ah, that...was hardly gentlemanly of me, was it? My apologies; my own work deals heavily with civilizations greatly removed from those we're familiar with in my world today - hearing of other societies is something that interests me greatly.
this all reminds ondorus of himself. but like. a few centuries younger.
it's kind of adorable.]
It's perfectly all right. I don't mind sharing - if there's anything you'd like to know, all you have to do is ask. I might ask for some information to be shared in return, though. [let it begin]
It's fairly common for people of all kinds to know the very basics of magic, especially if they lack rudimentary skill in the handling of a weapon with which to defend themselves instead. Some choose to advance their knowledge of magic, be it for purposes of combat, craft, or simple curiosity. [or other, more nefarious purposes but mehhhh.]
and it's admittedly kind of nice to not be in the foreveralone.jpg corner due to this sort of thing, wow]
...you can ask whatever you like, though I can't guarantee that all questions will receive answers. You're more than welcome to follow the same principle, of course; as it stands, I'll answer what I believe I can.
[all right, now that he's established that his veritable emotional fortress-walls are not going to come crashing down for any man/univir/thingo-that-you-happen-to-be
let's nerding]
And am I to assume that you're one of these...sorcerers yourself? Do you have a specific discipline that you study, or have you used the longer timeframe you mentioned to study multiple?
[video - private] in which i bullshit heartily because rf doesn't fuckin explain anything
But magic is an important subject for me, as a part of univir tradition. My skill lies mainly in practical applications - seals, enchantments, and the like - and extended theory, though I've dabbled in most areas.
[video - private] i have to bullshit heartily when people ask descole what *year* it is, i feel you
[He's back to fiddling with the small mechanical whatever-it-is, though it isn't through boredom; just to give his hands something to do while he thinks.]
I can certainly understand the desire to study "anything," as it were - some of the disciplines I've studied have their practical applications, or were necessary for my work; others are things I've picked up simply because I liked them, or at the very least the idea of them. I don't see much sense in limiting myself, in that regard.

...not that swordsmanship is a rare skill back home but there's a difference between functional swordsmanship and fancy swordsmanship ok]
Respectable skills to have, even if they don't often come to much use in Johto. Do you play an instrument?
